Digital Editor – Opinion and Ideas

In December 2019 I became the digital producer for the Opinion section of The Boston Globe. In early 2023 I was promoted to Digital Editor. I left this position in Spring 2023.

During my time with the section, I managed its digital presence, worked with the Social Media Editor to create a social strategy, and project managed big pieces.

Social Media

During my time in the Opinion section, I worked with our Director of Visual Strategy to develop a cohesive brand identity across various social media platforms. Using various analytics and best practices, I worked with the Social Media Editor to develop a strategy for growth on social media. This included introducing the Globe Opinion team to new technologies and helping integrate them into our weekly content lineup.

Projects

When the Opinion and Ideas teams launched large digital projects, I played various roles in ensuring a successful rollout. I developed a launch plan that includes determining publication time, gathering various assets in one place, and documenting responsibilities for the launch. I also crafted a social campaign around the project and build out spaces on our website to house the initiative.

Newsletters

As Digital Editor, I oversaw Globe Opinion’s suite of email newsletters. I worked with columnists to write and produce their newsletters, focusing on subject line strategies to increase open rates.

In February 2022, I took over writing “Now What?” a newsletter that we launched in 2021 that examined the ways in which the COVID-19 pandemic was changing the world. This involved gathering articles from various platforms — including the Globe — and summarizing them in an easy to digest format.
