The Arlington Advocate is a weekly newspaper out of Arlington, MA and is a part of Gannett’s Wicked Local group. The print edition of the paper is distributed every Thursday and the website is arlington.wickedlocal.com.
I started as the Reporter/Editor for the Advocate in July 2017 and worked there until the end of October 2018.
While at the Advocate, I worked on deadline to fill the print paper with content every week and manage a quarterly freelancer budget. I also self-edited my pieces before sending them off to be approved by my Managing Editor. In addition, I managed the Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts for the Advocate and launched a podcast, A-Town, where I answered reader’s questions about Arlington.
During my time at the Advocate, I also worked with the students of the Arlington High School Journalism Club. I worked with them on their pieces, offered advice on developing a career in journalism, and edited a selection of their works that were published online and in the paper. In December 2018 I also spoke on a journalism panel they hosted. A video of the panel can be found on acmi.tv.
